When you find a platform that works for you, it’s worth a shoutout! The core of my knowledge and skills has been formed by some great courses I found on Udemy. Not only development courses are available, you can basically learn anything. Because Udemy helped me grow a lot, I feel the need of sharing it with anyone who is looking for some growth.
What is Udemy?
Udemy is an online platform that offers many, many courses. In fact, they have over 250.000 courses, and over 75 million students! Categories ranging from software development, design and IT to finance, music and languages: you can learn anything you want to learn. The courses I’ve followed were easy to follow, but I always make sure to watch some previews of the course before buying it. Because even though Udemy is amazing and most people offering their teachings are great, you’ll need to listen to someone’s voice for quite some time, so it’s a good idea to hear the voice first 😉
The interface felt very intuitive as well. You can easily find all questions that were asked for the specific chapter or ‘episode’ you are in, so usually when you get stuck, someone else did as well and got you a solution already. If not, most instructors I’ve talked to were fast and helpful in their response. Basically, you almost feel like you are in class, with very capable teachers and very helpful fellow students. Sound good, must be expensive? You’ll be surprised!
How much does it cost?
A little disclaimer: I don’t have any affiliation with Udemy, only my personal experience. They don’t pay me, they don’t even know I’m writing a blog about them. I’m telling you this, because I’m not sure how happy they will be that I share this with you: All courses I wanted to follow, were super cheap. Not in quality, just in costs. Now at the same time, every course I followed was at some point over or close to 100 euros. Even though this is still totally worth the knowledge you gain, for a lot of students this is a lot of money. This is the trick: they offer discounts so often, if you see a course over 50 euros, try wait a couple of days to see if they offer another discount. If it stays at a high price, I’ve noticed buying it while not logged in makes it a lot cheaper as well, as new students always get all these offers.
The most I’ve paid for a course: 14,95 euro. Most cost between 10 and 15, so that’s what I would aim for. I will say this one more time though: I don’t know if they would like that I share this, it’s just that I love sharing knowledge and they share a whole lot of it for very low prices. No guarantees this will last forever of course!
How long will I have access?
At the moment of writing this blog, I’m pretty sure it’s a lifetime access. The course I bought 10 years ago is still available to me. Better yet, some of the courses I’ve followed in the past have been updated with newer versions of the software or libraries taught. I can’t image every course on Udemy will be updated throughout time, but the ones that are, are extremely helpful. This way, they keep your knowledge and skills up to date, with just one initial investment.
If you try Udemy, let me know what you think about it!
