Frequently asked questions

Can I get free advise?

Yes! If you are not sure what your next step is in digital development, we can plan a free chat in which I can give you advise on what to do next. Better yet: if I think I’m not the right person to help you with that next step, I will tell you and when possible, connect you with the right people that can help you. I will get you the support you need!

How fast can RvdB Solutions deliver?

Of course this will always depend on how many active projects are running at the moment and how big your project is. Any task under 1 hour, I can generally deliver within one week. A full website can generally be build within two months. To get an exact estimation on delivery, please get in touch.

Can you connect my external system with my website?

Very often: yes! It actually depends on the external system. A lot of external systems offer an API which allow other systems to communicate with them. This could include just reading information, but often it allows you to edit data in the external system as well.

When the external system allows the connection or synchronization you wish you apply, I will be able to build a plugin or extend your theme with a functionality that makes that happen. Synchronizations like that can be triggered on demand and periodically at the same time, making it possible to fully automate parts of your workflow.

Do you want to know if your systems can be synchronized? Get in touch to see if I can offer support.

How much does a website cost?

A question often asked, but there is no clear answer I can give you. A simple, mostly static website, can go from 2.000 to 10.000 euros, while a full e-commerce website with a bunch of automations can go from 10.000 to 50.000+ euros. The prices completely depend on the size of the website and the functionalities you would like to add. In all cases, I got you covered! Get in touch for a quote for your project.

Can I update my own website?

In short: yes you can, but it’s not always a good idea. Let me break it down for you:

Updating your website is always important. Performance improvements and security updates should always be applied as soon as possible. However, just clicking ‘update’ blindly comes with risks that could require a web developer to get solve issues, while most of the time updates cause no issues at all. So what should you do?

The question I will always ask: What can potentially cause most damage to your business: a website that can’t be reached when an update breaks the website (until a web developer can repair your website), or potential security issues that could have been patched when updating?

In the first case, my advice is to never update your own website. Better yet: when you don’t want to risk your website breaking after an update, have your web developer support you by setup a staging environment where updates can be tested before pushing them live.

If security is more important than your sites’ uptime, I would advise to turn auto-updates on for both the WordPress core as the installed plugins. This way, whenever a security patch is released, it will be applied to your website automatically, reducing the risk of data-leaks and security breaches. If the website would break during such an update, you can choose to have a web developer find you a solution.

Will it be easy to change the content of my website?

Yes! 100% of your websites’ content can be changed in a fairly easy to use editor. If you have experience working in WordPress, editing your website should be a piece of cake. No experience? No problem! For just 240 euro I will give you a WordPress Website training, where I will teach you all the ins and outs of editing your website.

Can you help me move my website?

Yes! Depending on your current and new host, we can plan a full website migration that your customers and yourself will barely or even not notice. The trick here is to get the new location all up and running before changing what your domain name points to.

Can I see a design first?

Even though I have a design background, I’m not a designer myself. I am however in touch with some amazing designers that can help us out! If you would like to see a design of your new website before building it, it can save a bunch of time along the road. Let me know if you prefer this, then I will get a quote from the designers to add to the offer.

Why does a website cost so much?

A good website is not cheap. But why does it cost so much? To help you understand, let me break down the “behind the scenes” work a bit. If after this you still have questions about this, feel free to ask!

Scaffolding: Just like with a house, a website needs proper scaffolding, being the backend system which allows you to edit the content easily while allowing me to create all the building pieces for your website.

Code quality: This doesn’t directly concern you, but on the long run this is actually where you can save a bunch of costs. If you rush coding tasks, the quality will suffer. It might work in the exact context it’s build in, but expanding it or using it in other context can easily cost more time than it would have if the code was build solid in the first place.

Third-party systems: When some functionalities are available behind a pay-wall, sometimes it’s less expensive to use those systems than building your own version. Any functionality that’s not included in the standard WordPress out-of-the-box options will add value, but also costs to your website.

Responsiveness: When building a website, it needs to look good on any device. This does not happen automatically, as these differences between desktop, tablet and mobile views is specifically applied in code. Optimizing your website for each device takes time, but it usually worth it.

You are allowed to change your mind: It sounds obvious, but you are always able to change your mind. When we start a project, we will determine a clear scope. If your changes also change the scope, this could however increase the costs of a project.

Unforeseen costs: A project as big as a website will often have unforeseen costs. If we’re talking about faulty estimations on my side, it will never generate extra costs. If however the original scope turns out to be incomplete and needs to be adjusted, the added time can generate extra costs. This will always be discussed beforehand, so we will avoid unexpected invoices at all times.

Do you work on location?

I’m working mostly from home or remote locations. However, if you have more than a full day of work for me, I always like to come visit your office. It makes communication a lot more efficient and when needed it even allows me to work as part of your team.

Will the website RvdB Solutions builds for me be mine?

Yes! Everything I create for you will be 100% owned by you. I will be allowed to showcase what I build on my website unless we agree not too before the project, but the product will be yours. I will always build a website in a way you will not be stuck to RvdB Solutions.
